Thanks again guys and hope you dry out soon Colin.
Now even more confused. Had favourably considered Arturia Brass but two drawbacks, one:-Varied opinions, two:-CPU intensive. Realise that opinions are opinions, remember a HiFi seller telling me that a recording I'd made on a zither banjo on an unaltered recording, was not a banjo as his golden ears told him so.
In view of only 1.42 G.hz. G4 processor gradually giving up hopes of using a software synth backed with the argument that at least hardware synths/modules perform the same each time rather than being altered by processing shortage.
Realise that this is a professional board but can you suggest any synth/modules that might meet my limited requirements or shall I just keep saving for and importing a VL70-M and pay all the duty? If a Tyros is suggested, will need a specially modified soundproof, for the neighbours, coffin and an underground mains plug.

Just thought I'd drop in to let you know how it is going. After a lot of frustration, landed a secondhand Yamaha 9000 Pro and two boards, the piano and the wind board which duly I installed. Nearly committed suicide when plugging the EWI into MIDI A input and it was totally useless, no control. In desperation tried the MIDI B input and it acted the same as the Wind Controller inputs on the older Yammie keyboards.
Updated the Mini to Intel Duo, installed PrintMusic and Band in a Box which must admit seems disappointing although useful for unscrambling MIDI files.
The 9000 is gradually being explored, the Owner's Manual being impenetrable to a bloke who still thinks pentode valves are modern.
Despite this, the backing tracks made for the odd session held at old git's git are becoming more listenable and more complex and aided by the PrintMusic dots which are either supplied in hardcopy or via email to a free download print only version, a kind of very junior Finale.
Still using Pete's excellent samples and even setting very basic sax sections with them.
Will drop in again but in the meantime thanks everybody and a Prosperous, Musical New Year.

And a very happy new ear to you too.

Back to cause more trouble.
Now running BiaB UltraPakPlus 2010 for backing tracks, well at the special upgrade price, couldn't resist. Persuaded a Cafe acquaintance that she should try soloing against one of my slow (65BPM) blues backing tracks. She did, enjoyed it and requested copies. Wanted to provide something more personal in addition, so provided another few choruses of a different backing track transferred direct into GarageBand and using Pete's Growl Tenor sample and the EWI, blew a Real Track chorus, calling it 'her name' Blues. One of the abilities of GB is to print out the dots from Real Tracks, so decided to send the dots as well as a CD. The problem is that no matter what I set the minimum note value at, presently one thirty-second note, (is that the fabled semi-hemi-demi-quaver?), the Real Track dots just do not sound right.
Two possible explanations
1) I'm a genius who has defeated the powers of standard music notation? No, I don't think so either.
2) I'm doing something wrong but what?
Pleeze heeeelllllllppppppp this rank, ancient amateur.

Realised whilst trying to kip that the problem was GarageBand's ability to print two blobs on one stalk, which is okay on the keyboard but difficult on, in others' hands, a melody instrument.
If one splits the note time value in half and notate the different pitches, it still sounds strange.
So, is this
A) The General Ignorance phase of QI?
B) The EWI, an Akai 4000s is touch sensitive and too clever for its owner's clumsiness?
C) Something wrong with MIDI timing?
HHHHHHHEEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPP or I'll have to shoot myself, which is difficult with a brain as small as mine.

1/32 are demi semi quavers.

I can't help you with the rest as I don't use GB. In Logic it would be a qustion of setting the correct display Quantise. This doesn't alter the actual timing of notes as does the actual quantise, it just affects the smallest not value that can be displayed.

So if the display quantise is set to 16, it will only show 1/16 notes and longer. 1/32 notes would indeed probably be shown as a stalk with two noteheads.

Sorry for being a few weeks late with a less than useful response.
