Welcome to Media Music Forum

The Media Music Forum is for all music writers for any style of media. For amateur and professional composers, arrangers, programmers, copyists. Whether you write for TV, film, radio, internet, ringtones or whatever you are welcome. Working, resting, aspiring, teaching, you name it we can talk about what you do or answer your questions.

About the site

The site is intended to be a knowledgebase for anyone involved in media music. The forum is a place where you can introduce yourself, ask and answer questions or just have a chat. On other pages of the site we shall publish articles, anecdotes and resources that you might find useful. Anyone is welcome to submit articles for inclusion on these pages.

Do I need to be an MU member?

Not at all, this site is for anyone anywhere involved in the music writing business. The MU section is an additional feature of the site whic MU members can use the relevant section of the forum to discuss matters regarding the MU, and Music Writers Section members can use the MWS section to give feedback and suggestions about the MWS. Any views aired here will be seen and can be discussed by the MWS committee.

How else is this site useful for me?

As well as the introduction section of the forum in which writers can say a few things about themselves, we will also be able to feature individual members’ profiles on these pages - complete with photos, CV and soundfiles. This service will be avaialble for a small fee. All proceeds revenue earned from the site will be donated to charity.

Looking for a music writer?

There is a special section of the forum where commissioners, agents, music supervisors or anyone who needs music composed, arranged or produced can look for the right person for the job.

About me

I am a composer, mostly of music for television, but have also worked in feature films and radio. I am based in the UK, however this is an international forum. Members from anywhere are welcome and we are happy to hear from, link to, talk to, liaise with and share resources with any relevant organisations throughout the world.

PRS MEMBERS!

The PRS recently changed the way funds are distributed for broadcasts. Revenue for any music not used in a "primetime" slot between 6 p.m. and midnight has been slashed to subsidise music used during that time. Not only is this highly unfair but this very drastic action, which has reduced the income of the vast majority of PRS members, was done with no consultation with the members.

Those who benefit are a handful of top composers. The vast majority of writers and bands whose music falls outside that time slot are suffering severe and sudden losses in their income

What can you do?

Composer Paul Farrer has been nominated as a writer member of the PRS board. He is actively campaigning on behalf of a fair deal for composers. If you are a member you should have received voting information. A vote for Paul will mean a vote for fair distribution of royalties. You can vote for two writers, a vote for Dave Cooke will also help with this campaign. You can vote for four publishers, however the only publisher candidate known to support this is Simon Platz.

You can also sign his petition at Composers For a fair Deal
